State President highlights importance of youth volunteer programmes

HCM City (VNA) – State President Vo VanThuong on September 6 expressed his hope that youth volunteer programmeslaunched in Ho Chi Minh City will contribute more to local development.
The leader was speaking at a meeting withoutstanding volunteers and individuals on the occasion of the 30th anniversary ofsummer volunteer programmes and campaigns of young people in the city.
From the initial campaign named “Anh sang van hoa he”(Summer Anti-Illiteracy Campaign) launched in the city in 1994, volunteeractivities have been rolled out across the southern metropolis under variouscampaigns, attracting the participation of 5 million youths.
Over the past three decades, the volunteers have built31,000 facilities, built and upgraded 7,720 houses, 870 kilometres of roads and500 rural bridges, planted 650,000 trees, provided free health checkups for 1.2million people, donated 160,000 units of blood, and helped 2.7 million studentsin major exams.
Aware of their efficiency, the Ho Chi Minh CommunistYouth Union Central Committee has launched similar programmes and campaignsnationwide, which have received warm response from young people.

Thuong stressed that through the practicalactivities, youths will learn more about the country and take righteous actions.
More importantly, they have become more matured inthe way of thinking, gained an insight into the country’s reform, and known howto support those in difficult circumstances, the leader continued.
He noted that HCM City’s youths should be aware oftheir role in the cause of development as resolutions adopted by the Party andthe National Assembly have set forth many new tasks for the city./.
The summer volunteer youth campaign 2020 of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU) of HCM City entered its final day on August 16 with various activities for children in 24 districts and wards at a cost of nearly 1 billion VND (43,400 USD).
Running from July 12 to August 16, a summer volunteer campaign in Ho Chi Minh City drew the participation of nearly 400,000 young people, who contributed to the campaign’s success in various fields.
A ceremony to launch the 16th National Volunteer Day and to celebrate 30 years of summer volunteer programmes and campaigns of the youth in Ho Chi Minh City (1994-2023) was held on August 6, with the participation of nearly 2,500 young volunteers.

In recent decades, Vietnam’s mainstream media has become a reliable and persuasive channel for showcasing the nation’s development policies and achievements, especially in economic matters, according to a senior assistant editor at the Times of India.
A hub for sharing best practices, the event aims to forge solutions for financial sustainability, public media contracts, audience engagement, content innovation, and newsroom restructuring. It is also a moment for Vietnam’s media to accelerate its progress and figure out what the “revolutionary press” means in a new era.
From “Thanh nien”, Vietnam’s first revolutionary newspaper founded by Nguyen Ai Quoc (later President Ho Chi Minh) on June 21, 1925, the revolutionary press has remained devoted to its sacred missions -accompanying the nation, serving the Fatherland, and working for the people.
