State President Truong Tan Sang met with Jeffrey Immelt, Chairman and CEO of the US industrial giant General Electric (GE), in Hanoi on October 19. President Sang lauded GE’s business expansion, particularly in health, wind energy, construction and aviation, in Vietnamese localities, saying the conglomerate is becoming a long-term partner for Vietnam’s of sustainable development.
Talking about the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and other agreements that Vietnam takes part in, he said Vietnam is actively integrating and hopes for support from development partners.
Immelt, who is also head of the US President’s Council on Job and Competitiveness, said his firm intends to reach Vietnam’s remote areas while attempting to increase the rate of locally made materials in the country through high-quality manpower training. Concerning the TPP, Immelt claimed the success of domestic small- and medium-sized companies lays the groundwork for the pact implementation.-VNA
