A recent rumour of a “supernatural” force that will appear in Muong Nhe district in the northwestern mountainous province of Dien Bien in early May is disturbing security, order and safety in the locality.

The information was revealed by spokesman of the Dien Bien provincial People’s Committee Le Thanh Do, who is also Vice Chairman and Head of the Office of the Dien Bien provincial People’s Committee.

According to Do, the rumour goes around among H’Mong people in Muong Nhe that this supernatural will bring them to a “promising land” where they will be provided with health, happiness, richness and honours.

Since early May, several credulous people who believe in those make-up and knavish information have gathered in Muong Nhe to wait for the appearance of the supernatural.

Taking advantage of this situation, some bad elements have incited these people to claim for the establishment of an “own kingdom” of the H’Mong people.

The gathering of crowds in severe weather and with deficient and unhygienic living conditions has greatly affected the people’s health, Do said.

In the face of this situation, local authorities have sent cadres to persuade the people not to believe in the information as well as incorrect tongues against the Party and State’s policy of great national unity, which were regurgitated by bad elements, and to return home soon to continue production and business activities.

At present, some of the people have returned to their homes and local Party committees and authorities are continuing to solve the situation in Muong Nhe in order to soon stabilise the lives of the people./.
