Hanoi (VNA) – Swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien, as expectedꦿ, was selected as Vietnam’s💦 most outstanding athlete in 2015 thanks to her excellent performance throughout the year.

Vien, born in 1996 in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho, won 1,031 votes in a poll that gathered 160 sports correspondents, the General Department of Sports and Physical Training said on January 13. At the 28th Southeast Asian Games in Singapore last year, she obtained eight gold medals and broke eight Games records.
She also secured one silver and one bronze at the International Swimming Federation World Cup in Russia; one gold, one silver and one bronze at the Military World Games in the Republic of Korea; and seven gold, five silver and one bronze medals at the Southeast Asia Age Group Swimming Championships in Vietnam’s Da Nang city. Runners-up to the swimmer were runner Nguyen Thi Huyen, tennis player Ly Hoang Nam and gymnast Phan Thi Ha Thanh. Meanwhile, swimming coach Dang Anh Tuan was named the best coach of the year, followed by Vu Ngoc Loi (athletics) and Huynh Huu Chi (weightlifting).
Weightlifter Le Van Cong and his coach Nguyen Hong Phuc were chosen as the most outstanding athlete and coach in para-sports. The poll was organised by the The thao Viet Nam (Vietnam Sports) newspaper. A gala night to honour the exemplary athletes and coaches will be held on March 25.-VNA
