Symposium held to mark 70th World Human Rights Day

After more than 30 years of renewal, Vietnam has made various efforts and gained achievements acknowledged by the international community in protecting and promoting human rights, heard a symposium held in Hoa Binh province on December 6 to mark 70th World Human Rights Day (December 10).

Hoa Binh (VNA) – After more than 30 years of renewal, Vietnam hasmade various efforts and gained achievements acknowledged by the internationalcommunity in protecting and promoting human rights, heard a symposium held inHoa Binh province on December 6 to mark 70th World Human Rights Day(December 10).

Speaking at the event, General Director of the Institute ofHuman Rights under the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics Tuong Duy Kiensaid that over the past years, Vietnam has paid attention to completing the lawsystem related to human rights, taken international recommendations through theUnited Nations mechanisms such as the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) and thePeriodic Reporting of conventions to which Vietnam is a member.

The country has worked out national action programmes on theimplementation of the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development Goals and theParis Agreement on Climate Change, while exerting efforts to carry outdevelopment programmes, particularly in supporting people in disaster-hitareas, Kien stated.

In the coming time, Vietnam will continue its endeavour tohelp people better enjoy human rights as well as achievements of the nationaldevelopment. It will also remain an active and responsible member of UNoffices, including the UN Human Rights Council and the Economic and SocialCouncil (ECOSOC). At present, Vietnam is running for the post as anon-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 tenure, headded.

At the event, participants focused their discussions on thevalue of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and shared experience inthe dissemination work about human rights on the media.-VNA
