Tet gifts presented to needy people

FormerVice President Truong My Hoa offered 350 Tet gifts to ethnic anddisadvantaged households in three communes in Chon Thanh district, thesouthern province of Binh Phuoc on January 13.

Thegifts, worth 350,000 VND (16.6 USD) each, were contributed byenterprises and scial organisations in Ho Chi Minh City via the Vu ADinh fund.

The same day, Vice Chairman of thesouthern Binh Duong provincial People’s Committee Tran Thanh Liemvisited and presented gifts to 100 disadvantaged children in An Thanhand An Son communes, Thuan An town. Each gift set was valued at 500,000VND (23.8 USD).

From January 13-16, the provincialleaders also offered gifts to 460 other children in a number of communesand wards of Thu Dau Mot city, Ben Cat and Dau Tieng districts and theprovincial centre for social protection.

In recentdays, many enterprises and organisations in the province havedistributed Tet gifts to people with difficulties.

Taiwanese charity fund Tzu Chi has offered 500 Tet presents worth400,000 VND (19 USD) each to people in need in the remote district ofTan Uyen.

Meanwhile, Lotte Mart Binh Duong sent 350 giftsvalued at 300,000 VND (14 USD) each to disadvantaged people in Lai Thieuward, Thuan An town.

In another move, over 900labourers in central Quang Tri province received Tet gifts worth 300,000VND - 500,000 VND from the provincial Trade Union.

According to Le Thi Kim Oanh, Vice Chairwoman of the Hanoi FatherlandFront, the organisation has encouraged the community, enterprises andorganisations to join hands to support the poor people in the city onthe occasion of the upcoming Tet holiday.

A numberof enterprises have pledged to offer gifts to nearly 1,000 disadvantagedhouseholds in the city, worth 500,000 VND - 1 million VND (47.6 USD)each.

The northern province of Ninh Binh has decidedto allocate 20 billion VND (952,381 USD) from the local budget tosupport needy people.

On this occasion, the VietnamNews Agency’s Fund for Agent Orange victims offered gifts to threedisadvantaged victims in Yen Lam, Khanh Thuong and Khanh Duong communesof Yen Mo district.

The northern mountainousprovince of Lao Cai will spend 15 billion VND (714,285 USD) supportingsocial welfare beneficiaries there.

According toDinh Thi Hung, Director of the provincial Labour, Invalids and SocialAffairs Department, the province has nearly 40,000 individuals andfamilies in need of assistance over the Tet holiday.

The beneficiaries will receive gifts worth 300,000 VND each.-VNA
