Tet party for 200 overseas Vietnamese

 Binh Duong (VNA) – Binh Duong province’sFatherland Front Committee has organised a celebration for 200 overseasVietnamese visitors for Tet (Lunar New Year), which began this week.

The event featured traditional arts performancesand Vietnamese cuisine.

The southern province of Binh Duong has morethan 10,000 overseas Vietnamese who live in many countries and regions.

Nguyen Thanh Liem, chairman of the province’sFatherland Front Committee, said he appreciated the patriotic and valuablecontributions of overseas Vietnamese over the last 20years.     

Liem said that he hoped that they would continueto promote national traditions, stand together to build a sustainablecommunity, preserve national character, become a bridge for cooperation, andpromote the image of both Bình Dương and Vietnam.

At the meeting, many of the overseas Vietnamesepraised the province’s development and promised to stand together and provideuseful contributions to the country.

Overseas Vietnamese have invested in about 119projects in Binh Duong with a total cost of more than 4 trillion VND (178million USD) in many fields such as transportation, food processing,engineering, fertiliser production, handicrafts, woodworking and real estate.

Last year, overseas remittances sent to theprovince reached 2.75 trillion VND (122 million USD), an increase of 8 percentcompared to 2015.-VNA

“I Love My Country” media campaign launched

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
