Hanoi (VNA) – Thefirst batch of 55 BMW and MINI cars imported by Vietnamese automaker Truong HaiAuto Corporation (Thaco) have arrived at Ho Chi Minh City’s port.
Four months ago, the BMW GroupAsia said it would wind up its contract with Sime Darby Motors, which backsEuro Auto (EAC) - the officially authorised distributor of BMW in Vietnam since2006 - on December 31.
At the same time, it signed aletter of intent on cooperation choosing Thaco as a new dealer of BMW, MINI andBMW-Motorrad in Vietnam from January 1, 2018.
BMW is a renowned automobile-motorbikemaker with three fascinating brands: BMW, MINI and Roll-Royce. It has 30production and assembling establishments in 14 countries and its distributingsystem covers 140 markets worldwide.
Thaco, established in 1997,focuses on the production, assembly and distribution of commercial cars for Kia(the Republic of Korea), Mazda (Japan) and Peugeot (the EU).
Its production base covers anarea of 400 hectares in Chu Lai Open Economic Zone in Quang Nam province withsix automobile assembling facilities, 12 support industry plants and oneResearch and Development centre. Thaco has 97 showrooms and 59 distribution agentsnationwide.
Thaco is currently leading carsales in Vietnam, occupying 40-42 percent of the market share during2015-2017.-VNA
