Thai Binh (VNA) – About 600 peopleregistered to donate their blood at a programme held in the Red River Deltaprovince of Thai Binh on April 7, in response to Vietnam’s Blood Donation Day.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairwoman ofthe provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Linh, who is also head of thesteering committee for blood donation mobilisation of Thai Binh, said lastyear, the communication campaign came to localities in the province to raisepublic awareness of the work.

In 2017, Thai Binh collected 11,600 unitsof blood, exceeding 20 percent of the targeted amount.

On this occasion, collectives withoutstanding performance in blood donation work were honoured.

Similar events were also held in otherlocalities nationwide like the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho, the northernprovince of Tuyen Quang and Khanh Hoa province in the central region.

The National Institute of Hematology andBlood Transfusion (NIHBT) said it needs a minimum of 1,500 units of blood dailyfor emergencies and medical treatment at 180 hospitals in Hanoi and northernprovinces. Of the amount, 45 percent needs to be Type O, equivalent to about700 units.-VNA
