The election will take place at 10am, it said. The ruling coalition will hold a meeting on August 15 to choose its candidate.

The head of the Thai PM Office also confirmed that the House of Representatives will meet on August 16 to elect a new prime minister.

According to Thai parliamentary rules, a candidate nominated as prime minister must win the support of more than half of the House of Representatives, which currently has 493 members.

Also on August 14, the Thai Constitutional Court ruled to remove Prime Minister Srettha from office for violating the Constitution in appointing cabinet personnel.

ﷺ Srettha announced that Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Phumtham Wechayacha will become the interim prime minister. In case Phumtham is unable to take on the job, the position will be assigned to Suriya Juangroongruangkit, another Deputy Prime Minister./.
