Thailand’s National Reform Council (NRC) on September 6 voted to reject the draft constitution for the country, reported the Bangkok Post. As recorded, 135 votes were against the document, as against 105 in favour and seven abstentions.

A new committee will be set up to draft another charter within 180 days.

Before the voting, Thai Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Kreangam said if the NRC votes down the draft charter, a referendum, originally scheduled for next January, could be delayed to July 2016.

As a result, a general election might not be held until April 2017.

The rejected 124-page draft charter, one of the longest in the world, has drawn criticism over severa🤪l c✨ontroversial provisions.-VNA
