Thailand issues law on political parties

An organic law on political parties of Thailand, approved by King Maha Vajiralongkorn - Rama X, took effect on October 8, reported the Thai Royal Gazette.

Bangkok (VNA) – An organic law onpolitical parties of Thailand, approved by King Maha Vajiralongkorn - Ram𒐪a X, tookeffect on October 8, reported the Thai Royal Gazette.

The new law comprises 11 parts and 152articles. This is the third out of 10 laws that need the king’s approval afterthe promulgation of the 2017 Constitution in April. The two others are the law on the Election Committee and the law on criminalprocedures against people holding political positions. The Constitution Drafting Committee isexpected to complete the drafting of remaining laws before December 2. Although the law on political parties came intoeffect, political parties in Thailand are showing concerns over the NationalCouncil for Peace and Order’s ban on crowds gathering and other politicalactivities, which could affect their preparations for the election.-VNA
