Bangkok (VNA) - A military court in Thailand on November 24 indicted two men for carrying out a deadly August bombing at the Erawan shrine in Bangkok that left 20 people dead and more than 120 injured. The culprits, Bilal Mohammad and Yusufu Mieraili, described as ethnic Uighurs from the China’s Xinjiang region, faced 10 charges in connection with the August 17 blast.
The indictment indicated that the blast aimed to take revenge on Thai authorities for cracking down on their human trafficking ring. There was no political or religious motive behind the attack.
The two have been held at an army base since their arrests in August and September. Since the Thai army seized the power in May last year, cases related to national security have been handled in military courts.-VNA
