Thailand to launch GLP programme in fisheries

Thailand ’s Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and fisheries industry representatives will launch a good labour practices (GLP) programme for Thailand’s fishing sector.
Thailand ’s Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and fisheriesindustry representatives will launch a good labour practices (GLP)programme for Thailand’s fishing sector.

The GLP is a comprehensive programme that combines establishment ofindustry guidelines with a supportive good labour practices trainingprogramme.

The GLP guidelines aim toaddress unacceptable forms of labour and promote existing laws andregulation, in particular on child labour and forced labour, and topromote a culture of compliance within the industry.

Customised GLP guidelines are developed for each sector in thefisheries industry: fishing, marine shrimp farming, primary processingand processing/packing factories.

Some150 representatives of seafood industry enterprises will sign a pactpledging to respect the principles of the GLP guidelines and participatein the GLP training programme.-VNA
