Thailand: Tourism campaign generates 600 million baht in revenue in Q1

The OTOP Nawatwithi tourism campaign has generated some 600 million baht in revenue during the first three months, prompting the Community Development Department (CDD) to extend it and create more jobs and incomes to the local people across the country.

Bangkok (NNT/VNA) - The OTOP Nawatwithi tourism campaign hasgenerated some 600 million baht in revenue during the first three months,prompting the Community Development Department (CDD) to extend it and createmore jobs and incomes to the local people across the country.

CDD Director-General Nisit Jansomwong revealed the OTOP Nawatwithi tourismcampaign, which is part of the Thai Niyom Yungyuen project, has been launchedin 3,273 communities across the country with a 30 percent progress so far.

Participating communities have seen 97,100 visitors during June-September 2018,generation 600 million baht revenue to the communities, as well as contributingto related businesses such as some 14,000 homestays which have more bookingsdue to the increase of visitors.

The campaign has encouraged development in various aspects to local communities,including human resources training, tourism attractions development andimprovement of facilities, products and services development includingmarketing promotion, all of which have led to development of the community andstronger grassroots economies.

The CDD will organise an event during 22-26 November 2018 at IMPACT exhibitioncentre in Nonthaburi to announce successes in the campaign, and to raise thepublic awareness on the community-based tourism. – NNT/VNA
