Thailand’s cassava exports down 16.4% in Q1

Bangkok (VNA) – The export value of Thailand’s cassava and cassava products tallied 33.2 billion THB in the first three months of 2024, down 16.4% year-on-year, said Poonpong Naiyanapakorn, director-general of the country’s Trade Policy and Strategy Office.

As reported the local newspaper Bangkok Post, Thailand is the world's leading exporter of cassava products.

The country's market share of global export sales was 18.7% for the period, followed by Vietnam (10.2%), Laos (9.37%), the US (5.28%) and China (4.1%), according to the Global Trade Atlas, a database that compiles official import and export figures from sources around the world.

China remained Thailand's top export market for cassava products, accounting for 48% of the total. Other important export markets included Indonesia (12.8%), Japan (9.99%), Taiwan (5.44%) and Malaysia (3.73%).

Thailand is projected to produce 26.9 million tonnes of the products in 2024, down b𝓡y 12.2% annually, according to t📖he nation’s Internal Trade Department. The decline is attributed to the cassava mosaic virus and the impact of drought./.
