Thousands of books introduced at the Autumn Book Festival 2014

Kim Dong, in coordination with publishinghouses for women and youth, launched the festival on the occasion of the60th anniversary of Hanoi’s Liberation Day (October 10, 1954-2014)and the 84 th anniversary of Vietnam’s Women’s Union (October 20, 1930-2014).

The annual event aims to honour the cultural values andtradition of reading with a view to showcasing meaningful andinteresting material for book lovers and providing opportunities forpublishers to introduce new books directly to readers.

On theoccasion, a number of books on Hanoi will be introduced, such as twomemoirs of Hanoi during the 1930s and 1940s, presenting childhoodmemories of Hanoi just before and after the August 1945 revolution.

Notably,the book festival provides readers the chance to meet with famousauthors and artists. A series of discussions on morals, values andcommunity consciousness are being held for teenagers and young adults.

Moreover, small children can participate in a painting class with the famous painter and sculptor Philippe Legendre.

Lastyear’s event was warmly welcomed by the city’s book lovers, andintroduced more than 4,000 book titles, with up to ten thousand copiesof books for sale.-VNA
