Phnom Penh (VNA) – Party General Secretary and President NguyenPhu Trong had separate meetings with President of the Camdodian Senate SayChhum and President of the country’s National Assembly Heng Samrin in PhnomPenh on February 26.
Speaking of thesignificance of the State visit by the Vietnamese top leader, the hostsbelieved that the visit will contribute to nurturing and deepening relationsbetween the two nations as well as the two legislative bodies.
They also expressedtheir impression with Vietnam’s socio-economic development achievements, whileappreciating its increasing position and role in the region and the world.
Thanking the Cambodianleaders and people for their warm welcome, Trong affirmed that the priority ofVietnam’s consistent policy is to continuously consolidate and develop tieswith its neighbouring countries, including Cambodia.
He underlined a commonperception reached by him and King Norodom Sihamoni which confirms that thetraditional friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Cambodia is theirshared valuable asset and of significance for the national construction and defencein each country and for peace, stability, cooperation and development inSoutheast Asia and the world.
The Vietnamese Partyand State leader spoke highly of the important role of the two legislatures inboosting the bilateral relations. He suggested both sides maintain delegationexchanges at all levels to intensify mutual understanding, share experience inlegislative affairs, and create favourable legal conditions for Vietnamesepeople living in Cambodia and vice versa.
The hosts, in turn,voiced their wish to develop friendship and comprehensive cooperation withVietnam, and expand people-to-people exchanges, particularly between the younggenerations.
They affirmed theyalways pay special attention to promoting collaboration in all aspects betweenthe two countries, adding that Cambodian legislative offices will coordinateclosely with the Government in consolidating the bilateral comprehensivecollaboration and stepping up the settlement of existing issues in a fair mannerwith mutual respects.
Both hosts and guestagreed that along with bilateral cooperation, the two countries shouldstrengthen cooperation, promote the efficiency of the consultation mechanisms,and coordinate closely at inter-parliamentary forums such as the Inter-ParliamentaryUnion (IPU), the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF), and the ASEAN Inter-ParliamentaryAssembly (AIPA).
It is also necessaryto work together to well implement joint statements and cooperation agreements,and create a more favourable legal framework for economic and tradecollaboration, they stated.-VNA
