Hanoi (VNA) – National Assembly Chairwoman🤡 Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan will ▨pay an official visit to Myanmar from September 28-29 to strengthen links with Myanmar 's parliament.

During the visit, her first trip abroad as head of the Vietnamese NA, the legislative leader will attend the 37th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA 37) which will take place in Nay Pyi Taw from September 29 to October 3. Ngan’s attendance of the AIPA 37 aims to uphold the position of Vietnam and its NA at multilateral forums, and contribute to regional cooperation and links within the AIPA.
Friendship between Vietnam and Myanmar has been reinforced and developed. The two sides have defined 12 priority areas of cooperation, including agriculture, industrial crop, aquaculture, finance, aviation, telecommunications, oil and gas, mining, automobile assembling and manufacturing, construction, and investment-trade. As of June 2016 Vietnam was the 10th largest foreign investor in Myanmar with 11 projects.
Two-way trade hit 299 million USD in the first seven months of this year, up 15.9 percent year-on-year. Annually, the two countries hold trade fairs to bolster trade and investment cooperation. The two legislative bodies have also witnessed effective cooperation, especially after Myanmar was admitted to the AIPA in September 2011. The two legislatures signed a cooperation agreement in July 2013, a legal foundation for the two nations to enhance visits and cooperation among their parliamentary groups and law makers. Vietnam and Myanmar have also coordinated at multilateral forums.
The two nations look to promote the exchange of delegations between their parliaments’ agencies, and links among friendship parliamentarian groups, deepening bilateral relations.-VNA
