Hanoi (VNA) – “UN Women” in Vietnam announced on August 10 that it ꦿhad delivered essential items like soap and sanitary products to thousands of women and girls in La Pa and Dak Bo districts of the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai on August 8-9.

This was part of the organisation’s programme to provide 20,500 sets of sanitary products for poor women and girls in Ca Mau, Kien Giang, Binh Thuan, Kon Tum and Gia Lai provinces, which were severely affected by drought, in 2016.
The budget for the programme comes from aid worth 300,000 USD from the Republic of Korea’s Government and 400,000 USD from the UN Emergency Fund.
UN Women Chief Representative in Vietnam Shoko Ishikawa said that such essential items will help prevent the spreading of diarrhea, dysentery, foot and mouth, dengue fever and skin diseases, thus contributing to improve the health of 41,000 women and girls in those localities. The UN Women has worked with other UN agencies and the Vietnamese Government’s partners to ensure timely assistance for women in poor and female-headed households in remote areas, she added.-VNA
