UNFPA provides more equipment to better reproductive health in central Vietnam

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Vietnam held a ceremony on April 2 to hand over additional medical equipment to Vietnam to ensure the continuous delivery of quality sexual and reproductive health services in provinces affected by floods and landslides.

Hanoi (VNA) - The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Vietnamheld a ceremony on April 2 to hand over additional medical equipment to Vietnamto ensure the continuous delivery of quality sexual and reproductive healthservices in provinces affected by floods and landslides.

Todate, a total of 1,071 fetal heart monitors worth 130,000 USD have beenprovided by the UNFPA to help protect the lives of Vietnamese pregnant women.

Themedical devices are being distributed to commune medical centres and districthospitals in central and Central Highlands localities.

NaomiKitahara, Chief Representative of UNFPA in Vietnam, said the medical equipmentand supplies will complement the efforts of the Vietnamese Government inresponding to natural disasters and ensuring that essential services forpregnant women, newborns and children, especially migrant workers and ethnicminorities, are not disrupted.

Director of the Maternal and Child Health Department under the Health MinistryNguyen Duc Vinh appreciated the UNFPA’s assistance, and affirmed thatprotecting all people’s health is the top priority of the VietnameseGovernment, particularly amidst natural disasters.

Coastalareas in central Vietnam suffered record floods with long-lasting downpours andcontinuous storms from October 2020, leaving 200 deaths. At least 7.7 millionlocals in the region, including 92,075 pregnant women, have been affected.

UNFPAis working to ensure that the supply of modern contraceptives and reproductivehealth commodities is maintained and that midwives and other health personnelhave the personal protective equipment they need to stay safe. Sexual andreproductive health is a human right. UNFPA calls upon its partners to supportour COVID-19 response to procure and deliver essential supplies for people whoare most at risk such as pregnant women and women at risk of gender-basedviolence.

UNFPAis the UN’s sexual and reproductive health agency, working towards a worldwhere every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every youngperson’s potential is fulfilled./.

🐭 Vietnam, France collaborate in vaccine production technology transfer

Under the agreement, VNVC and Sanofi will gradually implement technology transfers to enable domestic production of several key Sanofi vaccines that are widely used in Vietnam. In addition, Sanofi will support VNVC in training human resources and quality management in vaccine research and manufacturing.
