UNICEF vows further support for Vietnam’s childcare

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has pledged to continue support for Vietnam in child minding, conforming to the country’s 2016-2020 socio-economic development plan.

Thecommitment was made at a workshop co-hosted by UNICEF and the Ministryof Planning and Investment in Hanoi on October 9.

At the event, Deputy Minister Dao Quang Thu and UNICEF DeputyRepresentative in Vietnam Jesper Moller described the work as afundamental factor for Vietnam ’s sustainable growth.

The ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Childillustrated the Vietnamese Government’s commitment to ensuringhigh-quality services for children, they said.

Participants proposed areas of priorities for the development ofchildren in line with the national scheme, including education, healthand social welfares.

UNICEF and development partnerscan help Vietnam ’s relevant ministries and agencies improve theresult-based public financial management system to ensure funds for thechildcare work in the long run, said Jesper Moller.

Over the past years, Vietnam has issued many policies and laws onchildren such as the Law on Protection, Care and Education of Childrenand the Law on Adoption, according to the Ministry of Labour, Invalidsand Social Affairs.-VNA
