Vietnamese software exporters are expecting a future of bountifulopportunities in Japan, the US, Singapore, and Europe, radio The Voiceof Vietnam reported.

FPT Software General Director Nguyen ThanhLam believes software exports are only limited by the vision andambitions of software companies themselves.

FPTSoftware’s exports to Japan have grown by an annual 27.5 percent overthe past three years. A 40 percent rise in 2013 inspired a 200 millionUSD earning target in 2017.

Lam says the mobile and cloud trends in US technology could be especially lucrative for Vietnamese businesses.

Thecompany’s US market turnover increased by 65 percent annually in the2010–2012 period and by 70 percent in 2013. Lam says the company hopesto sustain such high growth, eventually earning 200 million USD from theUS market by 2016.

At a recent Information Technology Week inJapan, the Vietnam Software Association (VINASA) said 10 years ofcooperation have made Japan Vietnam’s second largest information andcommunication technology (ICT) industry partner.

According to thelatest Information Technology Promotion Agency (IPA) report, Vietnamsurpassed India in 2012, claiming 23 percent of Japanese orders.Japanese businesses themselves have identified Vietnam as theirfavourite partner (31.5 percent of votes, compared to India’s 20.6percent and China’s 16.7 percent).

ICT cooperation betweenVietnamese and Japanese businesses continues to develop, with expertsidentifying a wealth of latent potential.

* Market experience

Vietnamese businesses still struggle with adjusting to the specificconcerns and priorities of individual markets. Product and servicequality must become a focus.

FPT Vice General Director Nguyen The Phuong confirms Japanese and European clients maintain strict quality standards.

ViniCorpCEO Doan Manh Cuong says Vietnamese IT staff change positions toofrequently and possess insufficient technical and foreign languageknowledge. Reading and writing skills are impressive but Englishcommunication remains an issue. Japanese language learning also takesseveral years.

Some businesses say Japanese clients are more willing to share their experience and technology.

Vietnamese software exporters with Japanese market ambitions should consider the CMMi Level 5 certificate a golden key.

Businessesshould pay more attention to human resources training in order to meetJapanese partner demands. The State can help by encouraging theapplication of internationally recognised standards like FE, ITSS, CMMiand ISO. Businesses should cooperate with each other to undertakeprojects on larger scales.-VNA
