US-funded disaster response centre inaugurated in Quang Ngai

A disaster prevention and response centre funded by the Command of the US Navy officially went into operation on March 30 in central Quang Ngai province.
A disaster prevention and response centre funded by the Command of theUS Navy officially went into operation on March 30 in central Quang Ngaiprovince.

Construction on the three-storey centre began in June 2014. It was built at a total investment of more than 420,000 USD.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, US Consul General in Ho Chi MinhCity Rena Bitter said that the centre will help Quang Ngai provinceeffectively respond to disasters, serving as a shelter for locals andproviding a contact and communication point.

Thecentre is one of many being built in Vietnam by the US to mark 20 yearssince the normalisation of bilateral diplomatic ties between the twonations, she added.-VNA
