Vice President holds bilateral meetings on CICA sidelines

– Vice President Dang Thi NgocThinh met with a number of State and Government leaders on the sidelines of the5th Conference onInteraction and Confidence Building Measures inAsia (CICA) in Tajikistan from June 14-15.

Presidentof Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon told the VietnameseVice President at their meeting that Tajikistan wants to deepen traditional friendship with Vietnamacross fields and expand bilateral cooperation at multilateral forums.  

Rahmon said the two sides need to closely coordinate to strongly push economicand trade ties on a par with the bilateral relations.

He agreed with Vice President Thinh’s proposal on establishing a jointcommittee to promote bilateral cooperation, and suggested that the twocountries set up embassies in each other's capitals.

For her part, Thinh praised Tajikistan for its preparation for the CICA, andaffirmed that Vietnam will coordinate closely with the host country for theevent’s success.

Shesuggested the two sides focus on promoting economic and trade bonds with specificmeasures such as holding negotiation for the signing of agreements to facilitatethe travel of the two countries’ citizens, encourage investment protection, avoiddouble taxation, and provide mutual legal assistance.

She also called on the two sides to expand business cooperation in the fieldsof their strength, including material cotton and fabric production,agriculture, fisheries, textiles, and mining.

Vice President Thinh also had separate meetings with the Chinese President, theKing of Qatar, the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, and the Indian ForeignMinister, during which she proposed the countries to coordinate with Vietnam intaking measures to bolster multifaceted relations between Vietnam and thenations, and enhance the exchange of all-level visits.

Chinese President Xi Jinping expressedhis respect for relations with Vietnam and suggested the two sides implementcommitments of the two countries’ leaders to further the Vietnam-China relations.

Meanwhile,Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Novruz Mammadov pledged to coordinate with Vietnam in organising the Non-Aligned Movement Summitin October this year.

Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar stressedthat Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s new government wishes to further expand thestrategic partnership between the two countries.-VNA
