Vietnam attends 1st China-South Asia Expo

Chinese Deputy Premier Ma Kai and other leaders of Southeast and South Asian countries also attended the event.

Speaking at the event, Deputy PM Ninh said that through 20successfully-organised events, the Kunming fair has become one of themost attractive fairs in China for Vietnamese businesses.

The combined organisation of the China-South Asia Expo and theChina Import & Export Fair helps tighten economic and tradecooperation between China and other regional nations, he said.

It also offers the chance for Vietnamese businesses to boostcooperation with their peers in China and other South Asiancountries, Ninh added.

The Vietnamese leader pointedout that in recent years, Vietnam-China economic ties have grownsteadily. China remains Vietnam’s largest trade partner with 2012import-export turnover reaching 41.1 billion USD, a year-on-yearincrease of 15.2 percent. Two-way trade between Yunnan and Vietnam’s localities also exceeded 1 billion USD last year.

The five-day event attracts the participation of 1,200 businesses from43 countries and territories. Vietnam brings more than 180 booths tothe fair, the largest number among participating ASEAN countries,focusing on handicrafts, food, beverages and footwear.-VNA

Vietnam’s durian exports rebound strongly

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in May, June, and July, the country exported 7,745 batches of fresh durians totaling over 207,000 tonnes, more than 10 times higher than in the first four months of the year, as well as 560 batches of frozen durians weighing nearly 16,000 tonnes, up almost 64.3%.
