Vietnam attends first congress of Italian Communist Party

A Vietnamese delegation led by Cao Chi Thien, Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV)’s organisation in Italy and Ambassador to the country, attended the first Congress of the Italian Communist Party (PCI) in the central city of Orvieto last weekend.

Rome (VNA) – A Vietnamese delegation led by Cao Chi Thien, Secretary of the CommunistParty of Vietnam (CPV)’s organisation in Italy and Ambassador to the country,attended the first Congress of the Italian Communist Party (PCI) in the centralcity of Orvieto last weekend.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ambassador Thien noted with pleasure the continuouslydeveloping friendship and brotherhood between the PCI and the CPV over the past 45 years.

He expressed his hope that the relationship will continue to be consolidated andfostered in the future.

As the left-wing movement and the communist party in particular in Italy arefacing numerous difficulties, the congress offered a chance for PCI members todiscuss the prospects and challenges to the communism and major issues inItaly, the region and the world at large.

The event approved a 54-page political document on the discussed issues andelected Mauro Alboresi as General Secretary of the party.

This was the first congress since the Italian communists renamed their partyfrom the Party of the Italian Communists (PDCI) to the Italian Communist Party (PCI)in 2014.-VNA
