Vietnam finish second at World Pencak Silat champs

Vietnam finished second out of 60 countries and territories at the 18th World Pencak Silat Championship, which concluded in Singapore on December 17. ​

Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - Vietnam finished second out of 60 countries andterritories at the 18th World Pencak Silat Championship, which concluded inSingapore on December 17.

The team brought home six goldmedals, three silvers and four bronzes.

The gold medallists were Tran Thi Them in the women’s 55kg, Hoang Thi Loan Huyin the women’s 60kg, Quang Thi Thu Nghia in the women’s 75kg and Pham Van TyHuy in the men’s 80kg. Nguyen Duy Tuyen took gold in the men’s 85kg afterbeating Muhammad Syakir Bin Jeffery of Singapore and Le Van Toan defeatedKistian Pamungkas of Indonesia to bag a gold medal in the men’s over 85kg.

The host nation Singapore triumphed in the event with seven gold medals.

More than 300 athletes from at least 40 countries competed in the four-daytournament, which was organised by Singapore Silat Federation and AladdinStreet Singapore. This is the third time Singapore has hosted theChampionship.-VNS/VNA
