Vietnam improving legal framework to attract green finance, green technology

Vietnam is actively implementing a roadmap for an improved legal framework for better attracting green finance and green technology; and encouraging green production and investment, said Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha.

Geneva (VNA)꧋ – Vietnam is actively implementing a roadmap for an improved legal framework forbetter attracting green finance and green technology; and encouraging green production and investment, said Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha.

He made the statement on January 16 while attending a dialogue ongreen finance and sustainable development within the framework of the 53rd World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2023in Davos, Switzerland.

꧑ Speaking atthe event, Ha emphasised that considering the green economy and greentransformation an important growth engine in the long term, Vietnam is facilitating green transition, energy transition and transition to acircular and low-carbon economy.

In addition,in the context of digital transformation in all fields and at all levels in thecountry, Vietnam requires cooperation in digital transformation andexploitation of digital resources.

Ha called oncorporations to step up investment, support Vietnam in green growth, and wellimplement international commitments to sustainable development and climatechange, including those deliverd at the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow.

Leaders ofcorporations expressed their impressions at Vietnam's GDP growth, congratulated the country on its economic development achievements and appreciated its economic prospects.

Investors also applaued Vietnam's commitment to carbon neutralityat the COP26 aswell as the negotiation process to establish a Just Energy TransitionPartnership.

𒊎 On that basis,international corporations and investment funds expressed their wish to accompany theVietnamese Government, actively seek investment opportunities and implementgreen projects in Vietnam in the future./.

ꦓ Vietnam pioneers use of AI and remote sensing to monitor seawater quality

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.

𒊎 Vietnam ramps up plastic waste recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
