Vietnam, India cooperate in herbal remedy development

A delegation from the Ministry of Science and Technology (MST)’s Rural and Mountainous Programme visited India from June 20-26 to learn experiences from Indian partners in developing remedies from herbs.
A delegation from the Ministry of Science and Technology (MST)’s Ruraland Mountainous Programme visited India from June 20-26 to learnexperiences from Indian partners in developing remedies from herbs.

The delegation’s visit also aimed to study ways topromote Vietnam ’s herbal products in the global market, build adigital library on national medicines and protect the intellectualproperty for traditional drugs.

The delegationintroduced several medicinal herbs that were discovered and developedunder the programme and called for the Indian side’s support andcooperation in the context that the WB is to approve a herbal remedydevelopment loan.

During the visit, the Vietnamesedelegation had working sessions with several Indian agencies, includingthe Traditional Knowledge Digital Library (TKDL), Dabur Fund – India’s leading research agency on herbal remedies and the NationalBotanical Research Institute.

At the meetings, thetwo sides exchanged views on possibilities for cooperation and agreedto jointly draw up projects to produce medicines from herbs and promoteintellectual property protection.

The Rural andMountainous Programme is being implemented under an agreement signedbetween MST Minister Hoang Van Phong and Dr. Mashelkar, President of theWorld Bank’s Global Research Alliance./.

“I Love My Country” media campaign launched

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
