Vietnam-India IT links click into place

Vietnam and India have signed two MoUs on information technology (IT).
Vietnam and India have signed two fresh memoranda of understanding (MoU)on information technology (IT), in a move hailed by Indian Minister ofCommunications and IT Kapil Sibal as a huge step forwards in bilateralcooperation.

The first MoU was agreed between Vietnam’sAuthority of Radio Frequency Management and India’s Wireless Planningand Coordination Wing. The second was inked by the VietnamTelecommunications Authority (VNTA) and the Telecom Regulatory Authorityof India (TRAI). Both agreements were sealed during a visit to India byVietnamese Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Bac Son.

During talks with Son in New Delhi on July 4, Sibal describedVietnam as one of India’s most important partners in Southeast Asia.

He praised Vietnam for the rapid development of its own IT sector andsuggested that the country should establish more joint-ventures withIndia. He suggested that network security and space technology arepromising fields for bilateral partnership.

Minister Son saidhis visit aims to effectively realise agreements reached during pastvisits by the two nations’ leaders, contributing to further enhancingthe Vietnam-India strategic partnership which was established in 2007.

The Vietnamese Government regards developing science-technologyas a national priority as it bids to become a modern-orientedindustrialised nation by 2020, he said.

Son expressed his hopethat Vietnam can increase IT cooperation with India and learn from itsvast experience in this field.

He stressed that Vietnam standsready to bridge India with other Southeast Asian markets, and as wellas with the Republic of Korea and Japan.

Concluding the talks,the two sides proposed establishing a joint working group with threemembers from each country representing the postal, telecommunicationsand IT sectors.

Earlier on July 3, Son met with leaders ofTata Consultancy Services and the Centre for Development of AdvancedComputing (C-DAC).

He suggested C-DAC help Vietnameseuniversities and research institutes with science-technology research,especially applied sciences and information safety, as well as IT humanresources development through training in both nations.-VNA

The networks bring together universities, research institutes and domestic and foreign businesses. The resumption of the programme after years of suspension carries considerable significance for the nation’s development in a new era as it strives to gradually reduce and ultimately phase out coal-fired power to realise the Government’s commitment to Net Zero by 2050.
