Vientiane (VNA) – A delegꦍation of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) was received in Vientiane on March 21 by a Lao Deputy Prime Minister who valued the academy’s cooperation with its Lao counterpart in r✱ecent years.

At the meeting, VASS President Nguyen Xuan Thang briefed Deputy PM Phankham Viphavanh, who is also a Politburo member and the standing member of the Secretariat of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee, about the outcomes of a working session between the VASS representatives and the Lao National Institute for Social Sciences (NISS) earlier the same day.
He said almost all targets set by the two organisations have been achieved, adding that they will enhance partnership in research, especially on cross-border economic activities; social issues relating to the movement of natural persons; drought, saltwater intrusion and regional countries’ responsibility; and integration opportunities and challenges. The Lao official spoke highly of the affiliation between the VASS and NISS and considered their joint studies as an important foundation for their countries’ State agencies to make policies.
He also thanked the Vietnamese Party and Government, and the VASS in particular, for assisting the NISS to upgrade facilities and train personnel. Not only has such support helped the Lao institute improve its capacity but has also contributed to the overarching special relationship between the two countries. He asked for stronger collaboration between the two sides in the future, through increased experience exchanges.-VNA
