Vietnam logs 14,638 new COVID-19 cases on December 12

COVID-19 infections in the capital city of Hanoi reached a record high of 980 on December 12, as part of 14,638 new cases across the country.

Hanoi (VNA) - COVID-19 infections in the capital city of Hanoi reached arecord high of 980 on December 12, as part of 14,638 new cases across thecountry. 

Thisis the highest number of daily cases in the capital since the firstCOVID-19 patient was discovered in March 2020. 

The numberof COVID-19 related fatalities reported on the day was 228, including78 in Ho Chi Minh City.

Totalcases since the start of the pandemic now stand at 1,413,051, ofwhich 1,407,655 are a result of the fourth wave of infections thathave swept the country since late April.

TheDecember 12 figure include 17 imported cases; 14,621 infectionswere local injections. A total of 9,377 new transmissions were detectedin the community.

HCM City recordedthe highest number of infections with 1,216, followed by Hanoi, and TayNinh at 920.

Vietnam’sCOVID-19 death toll is now 27,839, or 2 percent of total cases.

Thereare 7,596 COVID-19 patients nationwide who are in a seriouscondition, with 942 requiring invasive ventilationand 18 on life support.

Afurther 1,295 patients were given the all-clear on the day, bringingthe total number of recoveries to 1,054,720. 

Over 57.4 millionpeople in Vietnam have now been fully inoculated;nearly 75 million people have received at least one vaccine dose./.
