Vietnam plans COVID-19 vaccine trials on humans this month

Human trials of “made-in-Vietnam” COVID-19vaccine developed by Nanogen Biopharmaceutical might be implemented soon followingthe completion of paperwork, said Nguyen Ngo Quang, Vice Director of the MoH’s Administrationof Science, Technology and Training on November 3. The first phase expects to conduct tests ona group of 20 volunteers, while the second phase will involve 600 people andthe third phase, 10,000 people. If successful, the vaccine, which is beingtested on animals, will be the first one in Vietnam to have human trials. Nanogen Biopharmaceutical is capable of producing about 30 million doses ofvaccine annually, meeting domestic demands. The vaccine developed by Nanogen Biopharmaceuticalis now one of the two most potential vaccines in Vietnam. In late October, a vaccine developed by theVaccine and Biological Production Company (Vabiotech) under the MoH was testedon monkeys.
