Vietnam prepares for world skills contest

Hanoi (VNA) - The GenralDirectorate of Vocational Training and Denso Vietnam Co. Ltd on April 7 signed amemorandum of understanding on training contestants for the upcoming 44th WorldSkillsCompetition.

According to the pact, Denso, a globalsupplier of advanced automotive technology, systems and components, willprovide courses on industrialcontrol and CNC (numerically controlled computer) skills for two Vietnamesecontestants at its training centres in Japan and Vietnam.

A representative of Vietnam, who wastrained by Denso, won a CNC certificate of excellenceat the 43rd WorldSkillsCompetition (WSC) in Brazil in 2015.

This year, Vietnam will send 13contestants, who have achieved high ranking at the 2016 ASEAN skillscompetition, to compete in 12 out of 52 skills at the 44th WSC.

According to Cao Van Sam, Vice GeneralDirector of the General Department of Vocational Training, the candidates willbe trained for six months ahead the competition, compared to four months inprevious years.

Vietnam started participating in thebiennial competition in 2007 and earned numerous outstanding skills certificates.Thecountry won its first bronze medal in 2015, along with eight vocational skillscertificates of excellence.

The 44th WSC, expected to feature 52competition skills, will take place in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, fromOctober 8 to 20.

The organiser has to date receivedregistration for 1,298 candidates from 61 countries andterritories worldwide.-VNA
