Vietnam ramps up efforts to repatriate rescued citizens from Myanmar
Myanmar authorities have temporarily detained several Vietnamese nationals for immigration violations following crackdowns on online scam operations in an area near the Thai border.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnamese Embassy in Myanmar has requested local authorities to ensure safety and living conditions for the Vietnamese citizens rescued from the Myanmar – Thailand border region.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang revealed the information at a regular press briefing on March 20 when asked about the protection of the saved citizens.
She cited the embassy as reporting that Myanmar authorities had temporarily detained several Vietnamese nationals for violations of exit – entry rules following crackdowns on online scam operations in Myawaddy, near the Thai border.
𝐆 The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is coordinating closely with domestic agencies to verify the identities of the detained individuals. Meanwhile, Vietnam's representative bodies in Myanmar and Thailand have also been ordered to keep working with local authorities to swiftly implement protective measures and arrange for their repatriation, Hang stated./.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working closely with the Ministry of Public Security on the case and has instructed Vietnam’s diplomatic missions in Thailand and Myanmar to cooperate with local authorities in identifying the rescued individuals and carrying out necessary citizen protection measures.
A total of some 7,000 foreign nationals have been rescued from call-centre scam gangs in Myanmar where they had been forced to work since last month, according to Thai security sources.
The trip will be made at the invitations of Chinese Premier Li Qiang and WEF President and CEO Børge Brende, according to an announcement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
