Vietnam reign supreme in gymnastics at SEA Games 28

Vietnamese athletes won four gold medals, two silvers and two bronzes on June 10 to prove their supremacy in gymnastics at the ongoing 28th Southeast Asian Games in Singapore.

Two ofthose gold medals were won by Dinh Phuong Thanh, the men’s individualall-around gold medallist, in the parallel bars and the horizontal bar.

The two others were carried off by Phan Thi Ha Thanh in the women’s beam and Le Thanh Tung in the men’s vault.

After five days, Vietnamese gymnasts amassed 17 medals in total, 9 ofwhich are gold medals, well ahead of the nearest competitor, Malaysia,who got only three gold medals.

In tract andfield, despite the retirement of sprinter Vu Thi Huong andmiddle-distance runner Truong Thanh Hang, both mutilple gold medallists,new names are able to prove their capability with victories.

After the early gold medal by Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc in the women’s20km walking on June 7, athletics won three more on June 10 by newhopefuls.

Nguyen Thi Huyen made her to the listof gold medallists in athletics at a Southeast Asian (SEA) Games for thefirst time with a record-breaking victory in the women’s 400m hurdlesevent.

Huyen crossed the finish line with a timeof 56.15 seconds, shaving 0.63 seconds off the old record set bySrithoa Reawadee of Thailand in 1995.

Prasad Dipna Lim of Singapore took silver with 59.24 and Winatho Wassana of Thailand clinched bronze with 1:01.69.

Nguyen Van Hue helped Vietnam return to its domination in the men’sdecathlon by winning a gold medal with a score of 7232 points.

Le Trong Hinh won the third gold medal for Vietnam in the men’s 200mevent as he powered his way in the straight to cross the finish line at20.89 seconds, ahead of Jaran Sathoengram and Jirapong Meenapra, bothfrom Thailand.

Cid Jesson Ramil of Phillipines came in second with 7065 while the bronze went to another Filipino Ubas Janry.

Quach Cong Lich won a silver in the men’s 400m hurdles with a time of50.29 seconds and Bui Thi Thu Thao clinched a silver in the women’slong jump with her best jump of 6.65m.

Boxingalso had a successful day with two gold medals from Le Thi Bang in thewomen’s bantam weight 54kg category and Nguyen Thi Yen in the women’sflyweight 51kg class.
