A project to deal with leftover bombs and mines has been launched in the central province of Quang Binh’s Quang Trach district as a cooperation activity between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK).
Quang Binh (VNA) – A project to deal with leftover bombs and mines has been launched inthe central province of Quang Binh’s Quang Trach district as a cooperationactivity between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK).
The project, startedon September 15, is scheduled to complete on December 31, 2020 with the supportof the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the UN DevelopmentProgramme in Vietnam as well as relevant agencies of both sides.
Objectives of theproject include defining the exact polluted areas and optimise the efficiencyof resources for bomb and mine clearance, eliminating effects of the unexplodedordnance to locals and ensuring safety for people during production process anddaily activities, thus promoting socio-economic development.
It also aims to enhancethe locality’s capacity in giving first aid to victims, helping the victimsimprove their living conditions and integrate into the society, while raisingpublic awareness of bomb and mine accidents.
Right after the launchingceremony, the first component of the project to explore bombs and mines inQuang Binh and Binh Dinh province started.
The project willexamine 16,632 hectares in the two provinces to define polluted areas forclearance. The cleared areas will be given to locals for production or to buildpublic works.-VNA
