Hanoi (VNA) – The firstVietnam-Japan Environmental Week has provided the opportunity for Vietnameseenvironmental service providers to access suitable technologies in the field, saidDeputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Vo Tuan Nhan.

The event was successfully held in Hanoi onJanuary 9-11, with the participation of the two countries’ businesses.

According to international organisations,Vietnam boasts great potential in its environmental industry and environmentaltechnology development, particularly in pollution control, technology transfer,and environmentally-friendly product manufacturing, among others, Nhan noted.

Japan’s Vice Minister of the EnvironmentTakaaki Katsumata said the two ministries share mutual concerns in dealing withenvironmental issues, and as such, Japan was eager to share its technologies duringthe first Vietnam-Japan Environmental Week.

Vietnam is facing many environmentalproblems, such as waste treatment and management, global warming, ocean garbage,and especially plastic waste.

According to the organisers, within theevent’s framework, the two countries’ businesses joined in exchanges andmeetings. As a result, some agreements on water treatment technologies, airquality, and urban waste solid management were signed.

In addition, within Vietnam, the central cityof Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, the northern port city Hai Phong, and Hanoi have allaccelerated their air quality control projects. –VNA

Vietnam ramps up plastic waste ꧃rec🍒ycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
