Vietnam steps up citizen protection amid Israel – Iran conflict

Hanoi (VNA) - Amid the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) of Vietnam has swiftly coordinated with the Ministry of Public Security, t🐻he Ministry of National Defence, and Vietnamese diplomatic agencies in the region to closely monitor developments, evaluate the situation, safeguard the safety of citizens and diplomatic headquarters, and devise plans for potential evacuations from conflict-affected areas.
According to the MoFA, the conflict between Israel and Iran broke out on June 13 and has continued to see unpredictable developments, posing serious risks to civilian safety, including the Vietnamese communities residing in both countries. Right on the same day, the ministry issued its highest-level travel warning, urging Vietnamese citizens not to travel to Israel or Iran, and advised those already in these countries to swiftly consider evacuation or relocation plans.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son extended his sympathy and instructions to ambassadors, embassy staff, and Vietnamese citizens currently residing and working in Israel and Iran.
As of June 13, 37 Vietnamese nationals and four people of Vietnamese origin had been living in Iran, while Israel hosted over 700 Vietnamese citizens and people of Vietnamese descent, including staff and family members of Vietnamese representative agencies.
On June 16, the Vietnamese Embassy in Iran, in coordination with the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia, safely facilitated the departure of 18 Vietnamese nationals from Iran to Azerbaijan. By June 18, 16 of them had safely returned to Vietnam. The Embassy in Iran is maintaining its operations with the safety of its staff members ensured and they have kept regular contact with the 11 remaining citizens, most of whom are long-term residents.
Meanwhile, the Vietnamese Embassy in Israel has opened registration for repatriation and is actively preparing detailed evacuation plans. It will coordinating with Vietnamese missions in neighbouring countries and domestic authorities for immediate implementation if necessary.

Currently, 20 Vietnamese citizens remain in Iran, including embassy staff and personnel. All are safe, mentally stable, and in regular contact with the embassy.
The Vietnamese Embassy in Israel has advised Vietnamese people living there to proactively prepare and seek ways to leave the country via land border crossings, especially toward Jordan or Egypt, when security and safety conditions allow.

The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
