Vietnam supports flood victims in Mozambique

Vietnam will send 200,000 USD in aid to flood victims in Mozambique, who are suffering from the worst flood since 1971, according to the Vietnamese Embassy in Mozambique.

The aid willbe channeled via Movitel, an affiliate of Vietnamese telecom giantViettel in Mozambique, to buy food and basic commodities for 6,000households in the most damaged province of Zambezia. Each family willreceive an aid package, worth 500 meticais (15.40 USD) each, whichincludes maize flour, cooking oil, bean, salt and canned fish.

The Movitel also provides necessary communication tools such asinternet modems and SIM cards for free to residents and rescue workersoperating in flood areas.

The Vietnamese Embassyin Mozambique and Movitel are now actively coordinating with theMozambique Disaster Management Centre (INGC) to distribute the aidpackages to victims.

According to the INGC ,heavy rain and floods have affected the life of nearly 137,600 peoplein four Northern provinces of Zambezia, Nampula, Cabo Delgado and Tete.

The province Zambezia, where Vietnameseagricultural experts are working, bore the brunt of the flood, whichclaimed 64 lives, destroyed 4,963 houses, 378 classrooms, six healthcarefacilities and 51 bridges and caused damages for 23,893 households.-VNA
