Vietnam to host 10th ASEAN skills competition in Oct

The 10th ASEAN Skills Competition will be held in Hanoi on October 19-29, according to the General Directorate of Vocational Training under the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs.

Theevent is expected to draw 300 competitors, aged under 22, from tenASEAN member states. They will compete in 23 occupational skills and twoperformance ones, an increase of two skills in comparison with the 2012event.

The biennial competition will offer an opportunity forthe bloc’s members to show off their vocational skills and advancedtechnologies in this field.

As scheduled, the opening ceremonywill take place at the My Dinh National Stadium on October 23 while theclosing ceremony on October 28.

To prepare for theevent, Vietnam organised its national skill competition in May,three months earlier than the time when the previous ones took place.The Organising Board will select 51 from the best 77 performers at thenational event to take part in the ASEAN competition.

Vietnam first hosted the ASEAN competition in 2004, topping themedal tally with 13 of the 18 gold medals. At the 9th event inIndonesia in 2012, the country came second, with 44 workers competingin 22 skills.-VNA

“I Love My Country” media campaign launched

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
