Hanoi (VNA) ౠ– Vietnam always regards the US as a partner of strategic importance and highly values the substantive progress in bilateral relations since the two countries upgraded their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2023, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung told US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper at their meeting in Hanoi on September 12.
He noted that the two sides have maintained regular exchanges and visits at all levels, while economic, trade, and investment cooperation continues to develop steadily. Dialogue on tariff-related issues has also been maintained, alongside positive developments in security–defence cooperation and war legacy remediation.
Trung acknowledged the close coordination between the US Embassy in Hanoi and the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as Ambassador Knapper’s role in advancing Vietnam–US relations in a substantive and practical manner, bringing tangible benefits to the people of both countries. He proposed that the two sides continue to work closely to effectively implement the agenda agreed upon by their high-ranking leaders and various working-level mechanisms.
For his part, Knapper expressed his pleasure at the robust development of bilateral relations as the two countries mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties. He welcomed the outcomes of recent exchanges between Party General Secretary To Lam and US President Donald Trump, and thanked the Vietnamese Government and ministries for promoting bilateral cooperation, committing to fully implementing international trade agreements and fostering a favourable investment environment for American businesses in Vietnam.
The ambassador stressed that the US will continue to accompany Vietnam in realising its strategic development goals, particularly in science and high technology, while further strengthening cooperation in other areas such as war legacy remediation, education, health, and the fight against transnational crime./.
Chairman of the HCM City People’s Committee Nguyen Van Duoc described the normalisation of the Vietnam - US relations and the establishment of diplomatic ties on July 12, 1995, as a turning point that laid the foundation and momentum for cooperation across politics, security, economy, culture, education and people-to-people exchanges.
During the second dialogue, the two sides discussed a range of regional security and transnational organised crime issues, including maritime security, supply chain security, money laundering, and cooperation to combat illegal immigration, narcotics, cybercrimes, wildlife trafficking, human trafficking, and financial crimes.
Defence Minister Gen. Phan Van Giang expressed his hope that collaboration between the Ministry of National Defence of Vietnam and the Maritime Board of Russia will continue to be strengthened on the basis of mutual benefit, in line with international law and the laws of each country.
Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Berris Ekinci affirmed Turkey’s desire to deepen cooperation with Vietnam, noting that since establishing diplomatic ties in 1978, the two countries have maintained effective collaboration in trade, investment, defence industry, culture, and tourism.
The host leader agreed with the Vietnamese diplomat’s proposals to enhance parliamentary cooperation, including promoting the activities of the parliamentary friendship groups and sharing legislative experience, considering them important drivers for bilateral ties.
PM Pham Minh Chinh underscored the importance of solidarity and unanimity between the NA and the Government in performing tasks, including the building of a legal system that promotes a law-governed socialist State of the people, by the people, and for the people.
Party General Secretary To Lam called on the entire foreign affairs sector, including the diplomatic service, to continue playing a pioneering role in creating a peaceful and stable environment, and maximising external resources and favourable conditions to spur national development, particularly to achieve the development goals for 2030 and 2045.
