Vietnam wins 72 medals at ASEAN Taekwondo Championship

Vietnamese martial artists won 72 medals on the first day of the ongoing ASEAN Taekwondo Championships held in Pasay city of the Philippines.

- Vietnamese martialartists won 72 medals on the first day of the ongoing ASEAN TaekwondoChampionships held in Pasay city of the Philippines.

In the poomsae (performance) events, Vietnam wonsix golds, six silvers and 16 bronzes. In the kyorugi (free sparring), Vietnamwon 12 golds, 10 silvers and 22 bronzes.

The tournament attracted fighters from eightregional countries, namely Brunei, Cambodia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Timor-Leste,Singapore, Vietnam and the hosts Philippines.

Vietnam sent 154 athletes to theevent competing in three divisions – senior, junior and cadet.

The event, held from May 2-6, is a warm-up forteams to prepare for the 30th Southeast Asian Games to be held inthe Philippines later this year.-VNA
