Hanoi (VNA) - Ly Duy Thanh has been voted first president of the VietnamWrestling Federation, which was introduced to the public in Hanoi on October 20.

Thanh, deputy chairman of the Gia Lam District People’s Committee, will beassisted by four deputies and an executive committee of 25 other members, whowill work from 2019-24.

The new federation aims to develop the sport throughout the country and findtalented athletes for national teams.

The federation also hopes to maintain and improve local tournaments whilesending athletes to international events aiming at taking medals fromhigh-level competitions such as the Asian Games and world championships.

Wrestling is one of Vietnam’s strong points in events like the SEA Games, andVietnamese athletes won two slots at the Rio Olympics in 2016./.
