Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamese diplomaticcorps in many countries have organised an array of activities for overseasVietnamese to celebrate the traditional Tet (Lunar New Year), the biggestfestival in a year for Vietnamese.
In New Delhi, a get-together at the VietnameseEmbassy on February 11 night brought together Vietnamese expats, representativesof the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member countries, Indianofficials and international friends.
Addressing the event, Vietnamese Ambassador Ton SinhThanh highlighted major socio-economic and diplomatic achievements Vietnam hasrecorded in 2017.
With a growth rate of 6.8 percent, Vietnam has beennamed in the list of economies posting fastest growth pace worldwide in theyear, the diplomat said.
He also highlighted multiple activities marking the45th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and India in2017, which he said will create a foundation for the bilateral relationship to advancefurther in 2018.
The guests were treated to art performancesintroducing Vietnamese and Indian cultures, along with traditional Vietnamesedishes.
A similar event was hosted by the embassy in Chennaicity, Tamil Nadu state, on February 10, along with the launch of a Vietnameselanguage class for Vietnamese children in Chennai.
Meanwhile, in Russia, the Vietnamese ConsulateGeneral in conjunction with Vietnamese associations in Ekaterinburg city,Svetlop province, organised a gathering on February 11 ahead of the Tetfestival.
Speaking at the event, Consul General Ngo PhuongNghi informed the Vietnamese expats in Ekaterinburg about the political,cultural, sports and economic situation in the homeland, and urged them tostrengthen solidarity in order to build a strong community.
He pledged to provide the greatest possible support forthe expats to run business in the host country in line with Vietnamese andRussian laws.
