Vietnamese in Laos celebrate major anniversaries

The General Association of overseas Vietnamese in Laos (GA) on August 19 held a meeting to celebrate the country’s National Day and the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi.

At the meeting,attended by the Laotian Minister of Education Phankham Viphavan,Vietnamese Ambassador in Laos Ta Minh Chau and other senior Laoofficials, the GA’s chairman Hoang Dieu highlighted the association’sachievements over the past year.

The GA donated 50million VND to help flood-hit victims from the storm Kestina, 20 millionkip for the Bolikhamsay provincial Party Committee, 1,000 USD for floodvictims in Atopu province, 20,000 USD to build schools for Vietnamesechildren in Laos as well as two charity houses worth 12,000 USD.

The association, along with the Vietnamese Embassy in Laos and the LaoMinistry of Education, have provided 14 scholarships for Vietnamesestudents in Laos to attend university in Vietnam as well as openedVietnamese language classes for overseas children.

TheGA has also worked with a number of artists to help organise variouskinds of performances during major celebrations and has requested theLao state to present orders and medals to 59 overseas Vietnamese fortheir great services to the Lao revolution.

Speaking atthe ceremony, Ambassador Chau asked the Vietnamese community to upholdtheir traditional unity and carry out pertinent activities whencelebrating the country’s major anniversaries./.

“I Love My Country” media campaign launched

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
