Hanoi (VNA) – A delegation of the National Assembly’s Law Committee led by its Chairman Phan Trung Ly paid a working visit to Wellington, New Zealand, from May 5-7.
While in the city, the Vietnamese lawmakers had working sessions with Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi, Chairperson of the Parliament’s Law and Order Committee; MP Damien O’Connor, President of the New Zealand-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group; and representatives of the Ministry of Justice, the Wellington City Council and the Parliamentary Counsel Office of New Zealand.
During these meetings, Ly told his hosts that the visit aims to study the country’s authority organisation, judicial system and legislative procedures in order to better law-making work, especially the drafting of legal documents in Vietnam.
Experience learnt from New Zealand is also expected to help Vietnam improve the structure and functions of its State agencies, particularly at a time when the country is effectuating the 2013 Constitution and preparing for the election of deputies to the 14th NA and all-level People’s Councils for 2016-2021, he said.
The New Zealand officials spoke highly of the visit which, they said, has contributed to enhancing the friendship and cooperation between the two committees and legislative bodies.
The Vietnamese legislators were also briefed on the operation of the New Zealand Ministry of Justice, the Wellington City Council and the Parliamentary Counsel Office.
On this occasion, Ly and his entourages visited the Vietnamese Embassy in the host country.
On M𝔍ay 8, the delegation arrived in Australia where they are scheduled to stay through May 14 to explore the legal system in Nꦕew South Wales and Victoria states and Canberra.-VNA
