Hanoi (VNA)🅠 – The annual Vietnamese Poetry Day will be organised as a festival with myriad activities, said Huu Thinh, President of the Vietnam Writers’ Association, on February 19.

According to poet Huu Thinh, this year’s event, the 14 th of its kind, will take place at Van Mieu-Quoc Tu Giam (the Temple of Literature ) on February 22 or the 15 th day of the first lunar month.
Poetry lovers are expected to enjoy a festive atmosphere totally different from previous Poetry Days, with a string of art performances, exchanges with authors, and exhibitions. Pieces of poetry introduced at the event will highlight the country’s seas and islands, and the 12 th National Party Congress, he said.
There will be a playground for up to 200 children from schools and poetry clubs in Hanoi , and another for young poets from cities and provinces nationwide, Huu Thinh added. Since its debut on Nguyen Tieu (the 15th day of the first lunar month) in 2003, Vietnam Poetry Day, the biggest poetry event in the country, has become a national spring tradition. Starting out as an initiative from the Vietnam Writers' Association, Poetry Day has been organised in many provinces and cities to honour poetry, which has been an integral part of Vietnamese culture for thousands of years.-VNA

For years, the Vietnamese community in many countries rarely had the chance to experience Vietnam’s traditional arts and culture actitivies organized by the Vietnam government, except the annual event “Vietnam Day Abroad” that has been organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2010.
