Hanoi (VNA)🌠 - A group of 11th graders from the High School of Sciences (under the University of Sciences - Vietnam National University, Hanoi) has just won a silver medal at the International Innovation and Innovation Contest 2020 held in the framework of the 19th Malaysia Technology Exhibition (MTE 2020) from February 20 to 22 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

They are Do Minh Duc from class 11A1 specializing in Physics and four from class 11A2, namely, Ngo Quang Tung, Bui Quy Minh, Nguyen Hoang Minh and Vu Trong Nguyen Khoi. The five students - the only Vietnamese representatives at the 19th Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE 2020) - won silver medals at the International Inventions and Innovations themed "Building a sustainable aquaculture system" held within the exhibition. The extreme weather pattern caused by climate change has remarkably affected the manufacturing industries, including aquaculture. The sector is affected by temperature change, droughts, acid rain, among others. Being aware of the situation, these five students planned to develop a stable aquaculturing system that helps improve the sector’s production and quality while  minimising environmental impacts.

To the target, the team looked into the environmental factors that directly affect livestock such as temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH value, etc. Measuring these physical quantities is simple in theory, however, it is more difficult to measure the values on a large area and outdoor. Therefore, the team has developed sensors to measure the quantities in a large-scale water environment. And in more urgent situations, using drone will give farmers an overview of their aquaculturing area. In order to hear more contributions and feedbacks from domestic and international experts and friends so that they can soon be able to improve their products and put them into use, the team has made a prototype product with the same full functions as a complete system and bring to the International Innovation and Innovation Contest 2020 held in the framework of the 19th Malaysia Technology Exhibition (MTE 2020) from February 20 to 22 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
At the event, team leader Ngo Quang Tung discussed with the jury members about the difficulties and significant improvements in the research project. They find ways to extend the life span of the sensors to measure weather variables outdoor on a large-scale.

“These quantities vary relatively slowly, however we need to find ways to measure them and address accordingly in order to prevent shocks for livestock,” Tung said. Meanwhile, Nguyen Khoi and Hoang Minh, said: “With the initial success and feedback from international friends, we will soon improve our products. We hope that our invention will be applied in Vietnam in the future because our country has a dense network of rivers and a wide range of aquatic products but the sector has not yet reached its full potential." For their parts, Quy Minh and Minh Duc expressed their excitement about the project. They said, “We are very excited about these research activities. We are no longer stuck with academic work at classes. Joining the project, we have a lot to learn to enrich our knowledge. We are really interested in scientific inventions.”
The Malaysia International Technology Invention Fair 2020 is jointly organised by the Professional Trade Promotion Organisation and the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change of Malaysia from February 19-2 at the World Trade Center in the Malaysian capital city of Kuala Lumpur. The exhibition has attracted participation of more than 20 countries and territories with about 600 inventions, including Croatia, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Iran, Taiwan (China), Brunei, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam ... and the host country of Malaysia./.

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
